A member of ORMTA since 1982, Gord currently teaches band, choir and Orff instruments at the Unionville Montessori School. He has a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Education degree from Nipissing University, and has taught in the public and private school systems as well as in his home studio for over 35 years. He has conducted concert bands in Roy Thomson Hall in 1992, 1994, and 1996 at the Independent Schools' Music Festival. His jazz bands, concert bands and choirs have participated successfully in events around York Region, including “Music Alive” where his groups usually win gold. Gord has adjudicated at both the Peel and Brock music festivals and is a former member of the Toronto Musicians’ Union and the Canadian Accordion Teachers’ Association. For the past two years, he has conducted an adult band, the Stepping Stone Band, in Newmarket.
Gord prepares students for ORMTA auditions, entrance into post secondary music programs, and Royal Conservatory exams. Many of Gordon’s former students have pursued careers in music.
